Beaches

Most of Gibraltar's sand is on the quieter east side of the Rock, a short bus or taxi ride from town.

Our pick

Catalan Bay (La Caleta)

A pretty former fishing village under the cliffs, with colourful houses and a sheltered sandy beach. It's our favourite beach in Gibraltar.

Host's tip: there isn't much choice of restaurants at Catalan Bay, so for variety eat back in Ocean Village or Queensway Quay.

Eastern Beach

The longest beach, running along the isthmus near the airport. It's broad and sandy, with showers and a café.

Sandy Bay

South of Catalan Bay, held in place by breakwaters. Usually calmer, and lovely at sunrise.

Near Europa Point, these are rocky coves with sunbathing terraces and swimming pools filled with seawater. Good for families and snorkelling, and they catch the afternoon sun.

Good to knowLifeguards cover the main beaches in season. When the Levanter blows, the east side can be windy and choppy, and Camp Bay on the west is often more sheltered. See Buses for routes.
